Crystalens® HD: Accommodating Lens Implants

Exciting breakthroughs in lens implant technology at TriCounty Eye Institute are allowing us to offer Baby Boomers throughout Orange County, Riverside, Corona and the entire Inland Empire area the ability to reduce or eliminate their dependence on reading glasses, bifocals and other prescription eyewear!

These new “Lifestyle Lenses” have helped hundreds of patients from all over Inland Empire and surrounding communities see to read, work on a computer, drive and participate in their favorite activities without depending on reading glasses and bifocals.

We are proud to be among the first surgeons in the region to offer patients the benefits of the latest lens design, the Crystalens HD. Leading eye surgeon Dr. Mark Schneider of TriCounty Eye Institute takes great care to always recommend the very best lens implant technology to improve your vision and your lifestyle. The Crystalens HD intraocular lens works like the eye’s natural lens to help return the range of vision you enjoyed when you were younger.

The lens’ revolutionary design mimics the eye’s natural ability to focus on distance, middle and near objects, restoring a broader range of vision. Crystalens HD’s advanced design can help restore your reading vision with little or no dependence on reading glasses for most daily activities. In fact, in FDA studies, about 80 percent of people who received the Crystalens HD could see at J2 or better (near vision equivalent of 20/20) after four months — superior to standard IOLs.

PRK or Advanced Surface Ablation

PRK or Advanced Surface Ablation as it is often called, is a similar procedure to LASIK and is the second most common refractive surgery procedure performed in the United States today. During your complimentary consultation with Dr. Mark Schneider, testing may indicate that there is not enough corneal thickness to perform the all-laser LASIK procedure. In this case, Dr. Schneider may recommend the PRK procedure. Both PRK and all-laser LASIK treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism by using the VISX Star4 excimer laser technology to reshape your cornea to correct your vision.

During the all-laser LASIK procedure, Dr. Schneider uses the IntraLase® laser to create a corneal flap. This flap of tissue is then folded back, exposing the inner cornea where the treatment will take place. The custom PRK procedure differs in that Dr. Schneider accesses the cornea’s inner layers by gently removing the thin outer layer of the cornea, called the epithelium. This layer of the cornea is then treated with the excimer laser. After your PRK procedure, Dr. Schneider will place a bandage contact lens on your eye which you will wear for several days to promote healing.

Visian™ Implantable Contact Lenses

Many individuals suffer with higher degrees of myopia or nearsightedness, hyperopia, or farsightedness and astigmatism which often require them to wear the thickest of lenses in their glasses, or rigid contact lenses, just to see well. Today’s new implantable contact lenses offer an advanced solution for patients who are not good candidates for LASIK. These lenses are compatible with the natural chemistry of the eye, have the added benefit of an ultraviolet blocker and are removable. The Visian ICL not only improves vision, but is also designed to improve clarity of vision.
